Anonymous Interview With Eyewear Designer.

From February to mid-April a small town in China gets covered with a dense fog. The air becomes saturated with water vapor and when humidity reaches its peak, it starts to drizzle. The two most miserable couple of months in the entire year are also the most memorable. The mystery behind the fog becomes an inspiration. This is how HAZE was born.

What prompted you to start your own brand? 

Working in the corporate environment, I felt mainstream eyewear labels lacked creativity. I wished for more innovation in my work and so I partnered up with my childhood friend to create a different eyewear brand. We envisioned a collection, which would employ unusual design elements and quality materials in unexpected color combinations. Out of frustration with the industry, this amazing idea for a new brand developed and took shape in what is now known as HAZE.

How did you start? 

When my partner and I launched HAZE in 2014, it wasn’t as easy to begin as we originally envisioned. We thought, we’ll make something and sell it, but we were really lucky that the first colorful styles we showed to a couple of stores were exceptionally well received. We’ve learned a lot since then, and even though the brand is still pretty young, it has become a lot smoother. We’ve started with the EDGE style, which came in six different colors, and now we have about 16 or 17 different styles in many more exciting color ways and patterns. We’ve just developed this new metal piece for our model SEIZE. It’s a laser-cut detachable mask and it’s something completely customizable, you can take it out or wear it together. It’s more of a lifestyle choice really, and that’s what we want to give to our customer. Continue Reading
